A nice surprise awaited Bernard during his visit to Clos de Vougeot castle in Dijon. While presiding over a Tastevin ceremony, for the nomination of ten people as Chevalier, Bernard was promoted to Officier Commandeur. It represents an important sign of recognition and trust shown by his Tastevin’s colleagues.

Bernard Voyer on screen

A film about the recent adventure of Bernard in Peru was premiered at the Festival international du film d’aventure de Dijon.

The explorer and a group of adolescents (8 Inuit of Nunavik, a Cree from James Bay and 2 young people from Lower North Shore), were part of the adventure and have contributed to the success of the film "« Vue d’en haut », directed by Sébastien Rist.

Public conference in his hometown, Rimouski

Bernard will present his lecture at Salle Desjardins-Telus to benefit the Fondation du Centre hospitalier régional de Rimouski.

All proceeds raised will be used to purchase equipment from leading health, which will benefit communities across eastern Quebec. A great initiative of the Foundation and participants of Défi Kili 2012.

After delivering a lecture on the relation between Music and Nature for the Orford Art Centre, Bernard is getting ready for the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

As part of the opening of the new pavilion dedicated to Canadian art, guests will have the pleasure to hear a poetic and thoughtful speech about the influence and inspiration that nature offers to the artist.

Bernard signed the preface of a book on Telemark

The author Lionel Condemine, mountain guide from France, published his book: Le Télémark, du virage à l’élégance… du Fournel Editions. Lionel is a close friend of Bernard; they have skied very often together in the French Alps.

Bernard in Peru in May 2011

Finally, his project is concrete! Bernard will accompany a group of youth from Lower North Shore and Nunavik’s Inuit in May, destination: the White Cordillera, Peru. A unique opportunity to discover a world away. The program: community service and trek in the mountains.

This project is funded and organized jointly by the Canadian Rangers and LOJIQ.

Bernard became president of Conseil de l’Ordre national du Québec

Board members of Conseil de l’Ordre national du Quebec elected, on 10 January 2011, Bernard Voyer to the presidency. This is a second term, having served as president from 2005 to 2008.

Conseil de l’Ordre’s mission is to advise the Prime Minister on the nomination of grands officiers, officiers and chevalier of Ordre national.


Bernard Voyer has been appointed Governor of The Royal Canadian Geographical Society.

Expeditions have been better appreciate, understand and better have raised the profile of geography. To expand our knowledge of the geography of Canada by exploring and scientific expeditions, the RIMS has funded several expeditions in the land.

As governor, Bernard will sit on a chair of this Expedition committee.

Bernard will participate to the Tribute to Ludwig van Beethoven by the OSQ.

On March 30, 2011, the Orchestre symphonique de Québec will honor Ludwig van Beethoven's complete symphonies, concertos for piano, songs, etc.. In the introduction to this evening, Bernard is invited to make a short presentation, tribute to the beauty of the world. You are invited to the Grand Theatre de Quebec.

Bernard guest on the show Les Touilleurs.

Les Touilleurs is presented on Friday at 20h on ARTV. Hosted by François Longpre and Sylvain Cote, the show presents every week a different aspect of food and is articulated around a culinary workshop led by a chef and attended by selected guests. You can watch Bernard Voyer, guest on the southwest French cuisine show, broadcast on 5 November.

The Tribute Award from LOJIQ Foundation was given to Bernard Voyer, to highlight his remarkable involvement with youth.

A touching word from Joe Juneau, a friend and ally of Bernard in the development of youth projects, preceded the presentation of the award. LOJIQ Foundation encourages young people to a personal and professional development through the experiences of international mobility.

The parking meter of Bernard Voyer: on the corner of Sherbrooke West and de la Montagne.

Bernard Voyer is one of the 70 Quebec personalities involved in the campaign ParcoDon 2010 "From the Streets to the Stars," which aims to sensitize Montrealers to the harsh reality of the homeless and needy of our city. To do so, 70 old parking meters are decorated by these personalities and then placed on the sidewalks of downtown Montreal, thus accumulating donations for L’Itinéraire.

Here, the parking meter made by a young artist, Marie-Noëlle Vanasse, accompanied by Bernard. It is placed on the corner of Sherbrooke West and de la Montagne.


2010

The Governor General of Canada has invited Bernard Voyer as well as 24 other members of the Order of Canada for her 2010 Mentorship Program.

Bernard’s Mentoree is Jérôme Turcotte-Routhier, a student-athelete and an involved citizen.

Bernard has been a torchbearer December 7th, 2009 at 3:12 pm at Beloeil on Laurier Blvd.

The Olympic torch will travel by land, air and water and will visit more than 1,000 Canadian communities and it is possible to follow it through this interactive map.

Bernard has been chosen, among Canadian figures, to carry the torch on a segment of its 106-days journey across Canada.. The Olympic Cauldron will be lit in Vancouver February 12th, 2010 to open the beginning of Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games


November 26, 2009

Bernard will offer a lecture on November 26th, 2009 in France at Belfort in Franche-Comté for the Assembly of European Regions within the framework of their General Assembly 2009.

This year’s theme is «  Energising Europe Responsibly: regional Innovation and Diversity for Growth and Jobs » and will gather more than 600 politicians, officials, energy experts and international journalists.

AER's General Assembly promises to be the most important and interactive energy event in this year's European calender.

375th anniversary of the city of Trois-Rivières / Festival international de la Poésie

Within the activities surronding the 375th anniversary of the city of Trois-Rivières and also of the Festival international de la Poésie, which will take place from the 2 till the 11 of October 2009, a magnificent exhibition of photos will be presented at the Librairy Gatien-Lapointe . Bernard will present several photos taken from his book ANIU From Snowflake to Iceberg which will be showed beside poems of the writer Jean Désy.


May, 5th 2009

On May 5th, out of breath, Bernard Voyer removed his gloves to touch the sky.

He so became the second Quebecker to have achieved, after Yves Laforest in 1991, this big exploit that is the conquest of the Everest.

June 3, 2008 to April 30, 2009

.The Biosphere marks the International Polar Year with a new exhibition, Arctic: Walking on Thin Ice.

The Montréal Biosphere is presenting a magnificent exhibition of giant photos to mark the International Polar Year. Several of them are photos from Bernard’s book ANIU From Snowflake to Iceberg. The cover photo from the book was chosen to present the exhibition.

2009

Bernard Voyer has been appointed to be Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel of the 2nd Canadian Rangers Patrol Group.

Composed of Inuits, Innus, Crees and Naskapis and present in 30 villages of the Nunavik, the James Bay and the Lower North Shore, the Rangers support Canadian Forces activities by providing expertise, guidance and advice on the local environment of the Grand Nord. The Junior Rangers program offers young people (ages 12 to 18) a unique opportunity to participate in a variety of outdoors activities.


May, 2007

Bernard has been named a Chevalier de l’Ordre national de la Légion d’Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour). He was awarded this recognition by France for his career as an internationally renowned explorer and mountain climber and his outstanding contribution to world geography.


April, 2007

The pebble from the summit of Mount Everest has made it back to Earth.


On April 17, astronaut Steve MacLean gave the pebble back to its owner, explorer Bernard Voyer.

Mr. MacLean took this precious rock with him on NASA space mission STS-115, in the fall of 2006.

The pebble made 186 orbits around the Earth, at an altitude of 354.4 km, travelling a total distance of 7,797,200 km.

The pebble was part of the astronaut’s official flying kit.

On November 12, 2002, at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa, Bernard gave astronaut Steve MacLean the Canada Post stamp depicting Mount Everest, along with this precious stone that he picked up on the roof of the world on May 5, 1999.

 

Bernard says it was an honour for him: “When the Himalayan mountain chain was formed, this pebble was at the bottom of the ocean. If over the millennia it managed to rise 8,850 metres to reach the highest point on our planet, it certainly deserved to go even higher.”



March, 2007

Bernard was elected vice-president for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – Young Canadians Challenge’s Grand Nord section. He is on the board of directors since june 2000.

This organism motivates young people to undertake a variety of voluntary and challenging activities.

Bernard Voyer has been granted another great honour, with his appointment as Chair of the Board of the Ordre National du Québec.

He was appointed a Chevalier in 1997 and elected to the Board in 2003

Bernard was appointed a Chevalier de la Confrérie du Tastevin.

The ceremony was held in France, in the magnificent Château Clos-Vougeot.

Bernard chaired the jury at the Dijon international adventure film festival, in France ("Les Écrans de l'Aventure").

We have the pleasure of announcing that the Université du Québec will award an honorary doctorate to Bernard Voyer during its convocation ceremonies, at the Université du Québec à Rimouski, on October 22, 2005.

This is Bernard’s second PhD, in addition to the one he received from Sudbury’s Laurentian University, in 2001..

Bernard has been elected to the National Board of Nature Conservancy of Canada. For the past two years, he has been a member of the Quebec division as well as the organization’s ambassador.

February 10, 2005

Bernard was a guest speaker for NASA astronauts, at the Johnson Space Center, in Houston, Texas, on February 14.

He also spoke at the Medicine in Challenging Environments conference, organized by the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) on February 15, in Galveston, Texas.


July 5, 2004

Bernard gave a talk in Tokyo, in front of 150 business people and a number of Canadian residents. The presentation was organized by the Canadian Embassy. Other presentations are scheduled at Japanese businesses and universities.

During a gala held in Toronto for his Canadian foundation, Sir Edmund Hillary personally honoured Bernard for the his exploits, offering him a commemorative plaque.

It was a great and highly emotional moment, to receive such an honour from this living legend.

To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the first ascent of Everest, an official ceremony attended by many alpinists who have reached the summit will be held in Kathmandu this coming May. An historic event!

Bernard and Nathalie are back from magnificent glacier hikes in New Zealand and climbing Mount Kosciuszko, the highest peak in Australia. They also had a memorable encounter...!

During their stay, Bernard and Nathalie were even featured in an article in the Canberra Times, the largest daily newspaper in the Australian capital.

Royal Lunch

Bernard, accompanied by Nathalie, was invited to Ottawa by Canada's Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, to attend a State meal for Queen Elizabeth II in honour of the 50th anniversary of her reign.

Only 51 people in Canada were invited, including Antonine Maillet, Marc Garneau, Oscar Peterson and Margaret Atwood. Bernard had the privilege of being seated at the table of honour, next to Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh. Remember that Edmund Hillary and Tensing Norgay dedicated their successful climb of Mount Everest in 1953 to the new Queen as a way of celebrating her coronation!

November 18 2001 - El Magallanes - Edicion dominical de la prensa austral

While Bernard Voyer and Nathalie Tremblay were in Punta Arenas, Chile, waiting to leave for Antarctica, they were interviewed by a local journalist and an article was published in the Sunday edition of El Magallanes, the southernmost newspaper on Earth.

Bernard Voyer O.C. appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, announced appointments to the Order of Canada on August 22, 2001. Bernard was profiled as follows.

Bernard Voyer believes that people grow by challenging themselves. This explorer and mountaineer has some extraordinary achievements to his credit, including the world first of skiing across Ellesmere Island. He is also one of the few people to have accomplished the feat of reaching both the North and South Poles and the top of the world, Mount Everest. He contributes to the exploration and promotion of Canadian geography, and uses his expeditions to foster scientific research and the development of new products. A much sought-after speaker in Canada and abroad, he is also involved with youth, notably through the Young Canadians Challenge.
