{"id":2855,"date":"2007-04-17T16:05:34","date_gmt":"2007-04-17T16:05:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bernardvoyer.com\/?p=2855"},"modified":"2015-07-14T14:59:53","modified_gmt":"2015-07-14T14:59:53","slug":"retour-sur-terre-du-caillou-de-leverest-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bernardvoyer.com\/en\/retour-sur-terre-du-caillou-de-leverest-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The pebble from Everest is back to Earth!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"textbold\"><strong>The pebble from the summit of Mount Everest has made it back to Earth.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On April 17, astronaut Steve MacLean gave the pebble back to its owner, explorer Bernard Voyer.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. MacLean took this precious rock with him on NASA space mission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asc-csa.gc.ca\/eng\/missions\/sts-115.asp\" target=\"_blank\">STS-115<\/a>, in the fall of 2006. The pebble made 186 orbits around the Earth, at an altitude of 354.4 km, travelling a total distance of 7,797,200 km.<\/p>\n<p>The pebble was part of the astronaut\u2019s official flying kit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-2901 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bernardvoyer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/04\/STS-115.jpg\" alt=\"STS-115\" width=\"204\" height=\"169\" data-id=\"2901\" \/>On November 12, 2002, at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa, Bernard gave astronaut Steve MacLean the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bernardvoyer.com\/en\/timbres-hommage-a-bernard-voyer-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Canada Post stamp<\/a> depicting Mount Everest, along with this precious stone that he picked up on<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bernardvoyer.com\/en\/explorer\/expeditions\/everest-2\/\" target=\"_blank\"> the roof of the world on May 5, 1999<\/a>. Bernard says it was an honour for him:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWhen the Himalayan mountain chain was formed, this pebble was at the bottom of the ocean.
